In a bizarre twist of internet folklore, actor and comedian Kumail Nanjiani recently became aware of a long-circulating rumor alleging he had an affair with former First Lady Michelle Obama—and his reaction was equal parts amused and baffled.
The Pakistani-American star, known for roles in The Big Sick and Eternals, addressed the false claim during an episode of the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast, where he laughed off the conspiracy theory that has floated through fringe corners of the internet for years.

“I only found out about this, like, a year ago,” Nanjiani told host Michael Rosenbaum. “Somebody was like, ‘Hey, have you heard this thing?’ And I was like, ‘What thing?’”

“Michelle Obama … are you kidding me?” he joked. “First of all, she’s amazing. Second, I’m married. Third, what?!”
His wife, writer and producer Emily V. Gordon, also reacted with amusement when she eventually heard about the false story, Nanjiani shared.
